<p It is that time of year again, if you can believe it.

I’ve just started on my taxes this weekend, so I thought I’d post a little research for a nice employees / jobseekers tax policy.
do

It occurred to me that we all yearn for refunds will not we?
Did you know that 3/4ths of Americans will receive tax refunds each year? And the average refund is around $ 3000? That’s not small change!
If you think you might have something useful with a few extra large in the pocket, then you are likely to ask what could be the fastest way to make that happen.
are

Well, once the IRS has indicated that the fastest way to get your tax refund money to choose direct deposit when you file is. The IRS has now been on this kick for direct deposit for many years. It saves them money. It saves trees.

But it also saves time and receive your refund in your hot little hands a lot quicker. My accountant told me that if I filed my return today (January 30) and asked for a check by mail, I’d be lucky to see, to check that end of February. But.

According to the IRS, if you enter your direct deposit information, if you file your 2011 taxes, you can see the money in your bank account in less than 10 days

In addition, the IRS is quite flexible: </, p> blockquote

you deposit your refund into multiple accounts. With the split refund option, taxpayers their refunds among as many as three checking or savings accounts, and up to three different U.S. financial institutions to share. Use IRS Form 8888, Refund of award (including savings bond purchases), to share your refund.

So when you are ready to file your return, make sure to sign up for direct deposit.
Bonus Tip: Why turn around and spend your tax return? Why not invest in yourself? Put the money in your IRA! There is bonus money, is not it? Let it work for you.

Such a two-page resume can sit on a sheet of paper, front and rear.
This weekend I had a client ask if we used some kind of pleasure-printer to do it. She wanted to know and do, even if it goes ahead it could. I said no. In fact, we use a very basic HP laser printer to do our printing, and I find that many modern printers can do what we do. So if your printer is, we say, less than 5 years old, you can print your resume on both sides of the paper also.
Here’s how it works:

How do you check your resume on both sides of the paper

Print

It is the original concept for … You guessed it … Pressure on both sides of the paper. When this function, then the process is fairly straightforward and automated.

First, you go to print. I’m assuming you are using Microsoft Word.
choose print, but not the “Quick Print”.
 </p to

After all, you’re going to beat on the Printing Shortcuts tab, and choose eco-print (double-sided printing)

<img class =" align none-medium size wp-image-1927 "title =" pirnt-both-sides-of-paper-3 "alt =" Print on both sides Step 3 "width =" 300 "height =" 280 "/>

And the it is. Well, if OK to hit print, it will automatically print first on one side of the paper … then suck it back in and print on the other side.
By the way, can you click on the images above to enlarge.

But what if your printer can not duplex printing?
This is not a problem. Why? Because when you think about it, you can manually force, any printer to print on both sides of the paper.
Simply print out a page.
Then take this page and manually feed it back into the printer, to be sure, however, to turn it over. Now print second It should come out the other side of the page you just printed.
You may need to experiment a few times to get this right, because some feed on the printer head,

head to toe, etc.

But if you experiment a little with manual feeding of paper, absolutely every printer can print on both sides of the paper.
simple tip, I know. But could be useful to some.

How to Handle a Performance Review

<p Most people look forward to job reviews about as much as they do a root canal. No matter how good you think you’re doing, there is always the possibility that your supervisor will see things differently and call on the carpet for your actions or omissions. But there are steps you can take before, during and after your assessment, to further your career and really help you look forward to a review in the future.

before the review

on the boss’ calendar created. Enjoy While most people are not a performance review, they are vital to your career. So if your boss does not she runs regularly (annually or biannually), is the best thing you can do for you ask yourself. Why? First, you must really need to know what your boss thinks of your performance, so you can continue the good stuff and change the bad things. Unless you spend the rest of your career you want, exactly where you are is, dass Second, ratings in general, if the employer raises hand and promotions. Not a bad incentive to schedule one today.

come prepared. Sure, performance evaluations mostly consist of your manager will tell you how she thinks you’re doing, but it should include some two-way communication. You should be willing to important information, such as your sales numbers, praise from satisfied clients and projects you have led, so that the layout of the positive contributions you have made. Id = <Span "more-1916" share>

During assessment

Stay calm. You feel as nervous as a child in the office of the director, but you have to force yourself to stay cool and professional at all times. And if the boss turns the conversation into a list of all the ways you have fallen below last year, do not argue. It’s okay, but respectfully point out the strengths you have brought the organization. This is where your list of achievements is practical. And remember, never assume, never know what your supervisor says personally. It is business.
iron a plan for next year. Avoid To no surprises in future reviews, you need to know how your success will be measured. Ask your boss for you with a plan for the coming year (or six months), so that you both know how your progress will be measured. If there are markers in place and they are true-you’ll never fear a review again.
Ask for their contribution. You want to make sure your manager knows how committed you do a good job for them. It can become crystal clear what skills she thinks that you have to work, but if not, ask them to share with you the areas in which she believes you need to improve. You will not only score points above all to ask, but can the most valuable information from your check.
will thank him

<p For years people have asked me if there is a “best” time to respond to a job advertisement? You should watch the job boards like a hawk, obsessively refreshing, so that you can get your resume in the first? Or is there some other window of time, statistically speaking, your CV is likely to be seen?

I never really knew the answer to this question.
In fact, I never had a good answer to this question somewhere else, because I do not think anyone had ever bothered to research it.
So I did it to me. It took me six months to get 200 job seekers to share their real world results with me, but I finally have a solid, anecdotal data. And that the data says: YES. If you want to play the odds, there are some times when you hear more often, be free again after the reaction for a job. In fact, there are four different times when the odds seem to be more in your favor.
I’ve

all data, including the graphic above, my methodology and certain conclusions, which all posted on our sister blog:

The Number One Mistake Cover Letter

<p <img class = "left aligncenter size-full wp-image-1905" title = "Cover Letter Error" src = "http://www.resumeservice.com/thejobbored/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/cover-letter-mistake.jpg" alt = "" width = "240 "height =" 238 "/> Last week I told you what will be in a cover letter. The post was by the realization that I will never really asked a lot of letters on this blog do so. But there was also some frustration I have with professional born recently. The long story short, I’ve seen some terrible letters from customers in recently.
The strange thing is they’ve all had the same basic cover letter mistakes again. So I wanted to make a mistake that everyone does address what a plague of bad cover letter.

Do not attempt the interview in your cover letter

Run

The number one mistake people make when writing a cover letter is making it far too long. Again it should include a cover letter only 3 digits … Are four paragraphs tops. And there is absolutely no longer than one page.

A terrible cover letter is one that goes on and on and competes with the media’s attention again.

I think people forget because they use the cover letter to preemptively with questions that should really try to be left for the interview. I can understand the impulse. You feel like you use in your cover letter can do to better explain or support what is in your resume. I mean, sure you could cover letter briefly why there is a gap in employment or why you are switching careers. But so short!
Do not give the impulse to explain everything away, what in the letter. The resume should stand on its own. Do you still have questions, the employer should be allowed for the interview.
Do not try to run the interview in your cover letter. It is good to use the cover letter to one or two points in your CV for more clarity address. But if you go too far this slippery slope before you know it you have to repeat things that are to begin in your application. Soon you will find just rehashing your resume in the second sentence by sentence, paragraph by paragraph, and the hiring manager is wondering what to read all the more important documents, your resume or cover letter.
Again let the resume stand on its own. The letter supports and complements your resume, but it is only a formality, a introduction for your CV . It should never compete for attention with your resume.

<p Someone tweeted me the other day that I am much more content in this blog about resumes, cover letters, but not much about. So, I would like to change that this week.
Let’s start with the basics: What should be in a cover letter

To really be honest with you, cover letters are not things complicated. In fact, in my opinion when it comes to cover letters, is simplicity key. If there is one mistake I see over and over again is that people try to write a novel in her letter. That’s just not necessary. A cover letter is a little bit of formality and a promotional tool. All you really need to do is say who you are, say what you want, I thank the readers, and get out again.

The 6 things that every letter

Should Be A cover letter must only 6 main components:

header / Contact Info. You should just your name and contact information at the top of the cover letter. The attempt to change the design look and feel or your resume is probably advisable. Away, in fact, if the look of your cover letter in order to match the look of your resume, this will help “brand” and it keeps your paperwork, laid.
Greeting . This is a letter, so you make a formal introduction. “To Whom It May Concern” is good if you do not know who is on the cover letter. But it is much better if you know the name of the person reading. “Dear Mr. Burns,”

intro paragraph . This is a short paragraph, 2-3 sentences at most, where you introduce yourself and briefly tell what position it is that you are applying for. I’m serious. 2-3 sentences tops. I am that kind of professional, I am applying for this job,. I think I’m qualified because of these reasons

Who I Am paragraph . The second Paragraph from a letter should be 3-5 sentences, and readers should tell something about you as a professional. What have you done in the past. What qualifications have you. Why you would be good for the position in question.
Thank You Section . And the last paragraph of the letter should simply say, thank you for checking me here how you can contact me (as you wish, of course) and I look forward to hearing from you. 2-3 sentences tops.
Your name and signature .
That’s it. A cover letter should be short and sweet. It is not meant to complement your resume. In fact, to repeat, what in your resume (Highlights of course). But it certainly should not compete for attention with your resume. Again, the cover letter is just an introduction for your resume.
I recommend to stay for the presentation I will outline in paragraph 3 above. Maybe 4-5 paragraphs in extreme situations. But I can not emphasize enough that you really want your letter to be only one page. A resume can be more than one page, but a letter should not.

Are the holidays a good time to job search?

<p <img class = "left aligncenter size-full wp-image-1893" title = "holiday-job-search" src = "http://www.resumeservice.com/thejobbored/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/holiday-job-search.jpg" alt = "" width = "240 "height =" 192 "/> Quite simply, the answer is absolutely yes

I write one of these posts almost every year at this time. I do not know what it is, but run out of people just assume that the holidays are not a good time to try for a job. I think it’s human nature: they are the things out until the new year, so you assume the employers are, too. I think we all have jobs, where things do not really slowed worked in the month of December and must consequently make a lot of work.
But I can assure you that looking for a good time for the holiday job. In fact, I often tell customers that December is one of the best months for the job search.
So, this year, I’ll give my top 3 reasons why I think it is:

less competition. I’ll tell you. We see it every year. The volume of clients dries in December, just more than three times a few weeks later in January. Simply put, the most popular month for the January to give people jobs to be sought. So if you wait for the month of January, start your job search, of which tripled twice, even the competition. Why not start now so that when other people are procrastinating.
If you wait, You Could Miss Out completely. I will not deny that many of the setting is done in January. New projects to start new, all that. But that does not mean that the interviews process begins in January. Think about whether a company needs a few new people to start second January, they are probably the snake people now, is not it? That is, they are likely to advertise the positions and interviews for the positions before Christmas so that they then people are ready to go when the holidays end. If you assume that the adjustment may not be until next month at the beginning, you may be right. But if you expect to begin interviewing until you could very well be wrong.
May Be The lender season but a foot in the door Is Forever . If you think about it, there is some rent made for the Christmas season. All these shops have extra hands. And there are many industries that ramp with extra help to have the holiday increase grip. But Brian, you say, these jobs are only temporary! That could be true. But even temporary jobs are a chance. If you get a temporary job and show an employer how good you are, that’s the best “interview:” There is for every full-time work, which could come up

you do some research on where and what could be your next job. If you find, and close to a job or industry that interest, challenges and excites you, this will motivate you to continue to change in the desired profession to make.

Step 3 – Standout CV and cover letter (First Impressions)

As a recruiter probably receive several CVs You must take off your resume from the competition.
a recruiter and employer’s perspective, the first thing they see your resume and cover letter is, therefore, you need to polish your writing skills and an outstanding resume and cover letter.
outstanding resume simply addresses what the employer is looking. If the employer is looking for a checklist of 10 requirements, then make sure that the main issues are mainly addressed and clearly you n your resume.
Please also note the following:

Customize your resume for each new role. It should not be a resumption fits all approach. Make some changes to reflect what the employer is looking even if it may be only a few minor adjustments.
Use bullets to meet their needs and their experiences.
Be concise and get straight to the point.
If you have a long history, leave all his previous roles, which is completely independent of the role you are for (from the employment history section of your CV) to apply. For example, if you are applying for a Finance Analyst, there is no reason for previous positions as a teacher or a personal trainer list.
the preparations for the interview and etiquette.
Step 4 – Three Key personality traits (apart from the experience)

Apart from the experience, employers are more interested in if you are naturally enthusiastic about the situation. If you go the interview, make sure you are 100% committed (leave any doubts at home, you can cast any doubt after the interview) and ensure that you bring with you three essential qualities for candidates, they are looking for:

A) Aptitude -. Your ability, willingness and intelligence or quickness in learning

C) optimism – your confidence, “can do” and a positive setting

For a given position, it is likely that you will beat the competition for the role, so if you have the aforementioned qualities longer than the competition, then you are at the top .
Step 5 – Cast a Net

To have your dream job is the fast track and the slower way to reach out. The analogy with fish, fish to catch the quick way would be to cast a wide net into the sea compared to the slower path that includes a single rod with a hook in succession poured.
With regard to the job search might mean more contact recruiters and organizations that you have an interest at the same time as many as you can. It is probably likely that you will several times depending on how far you are trying to achieve, however, be rejected, your assumptions, the great catcher. So expect rejections, the more difficult it is something more gratifying once caught is to catch it, the easier it is to catch the lower the satisfaction.
Step 6 – Timing

Timing is very important, based on the laws of supply and demand. In general, if you are looking to change jobs in difficult economic conditions, there will be less supply (jobs) with more demand (job seekers). Disadvantage in this case, as a job seeker, you are more likely to be your bargaining position is less. For this reason it is advisable to be aware of current economic conditions, before you move, weigh up the options, whether it’s the right time for you.
